Our designers believe that the very first appointment can be the most crucial step of the full procedure.
This is our opportunity to learn about you, your likes and dislikes, and truly determine what it is you’re looking to accomplish with your landscaping project. We spend as much time as needed in this phase to develop a good understanding of your goals so that we can locate the appropriate options and design the ideal space.
Our designers will ask a whole lot of questions during this appointment, for example:
- What are you looking to alter in your lawn or landscape?
- What do you dislike or like or dislike about your current picture?
- What design style do you prefer?
- Having photos available of what you like can be useful at this point. Not everybody interprets a specific design style the same way!
- What specific plants would be the favorites, or what colors do you like the most?
- Is more/less privacy a concern? What views about the property are important to enhance or block?
- During what season would you wish to find the landscape at its very best? Is four seasons of interest a priority?
- How do you want to utilize the space?
- Have you got some drainage issues that need to be dealt with?
- Just how much maintenance are you willing to do after the project, or will you contract that outside?
If you only have a rough idea of exactly what you’re looking for or do not feel that you can answer some of these questions, do not worry! Our experienced landscape designers can help you form the perfect vision for your space.
We’ll also ask you about your budget and if you’d like to do the project all at once or in stages. Our designers do a fantastic job of providing ballpark figures of just how much a project could cost dependent on the conversation in this first appointment. While we can’t provide specific figures at this stage, we like to place budget guidelines set up so that we can design a solution that will fit your budget and prevent frustration down the road.
We establish that we are a good match for each other in this meeting. We’ll then decide if there is a design fee needed to proceed forward. Design fees vary based on the size and reach of the project, and not all projects need a design fee. If the two parties agree to proceed, we program a design presentation.
Stage 2: Design–Getting to Work
After we’ve met with you personally and decided that the aims of your job, we spend time on your own property to analyze the website further.
We also examine sunlight conditions, soil type, drainage issues, wind conditions, and site lines. We take photos at this time as well.
We then return to the workplace and start designing.

Seeing the landscape design in 3D allows you to visualize just what your future landscape will look like. This can prevent the frustration of attempting to comprehend and visualize a 2D print, also it enables us to create changes on the fly if needed. Overall, the 3D design will save time and money.
